Eliminate Service Disruptions and Welcome High Availability With These Open-Source Load Balancers

How Open Source Load Balancers Help With Scalability Security

TL; DR: Businesses are having to meet demands for higher than ever performance and availability as more customer interactions move online. SKUDONET allows businesses to optimize performance and scale with high availability with its open-source load balancing solutions. We spoke with Emilio Campos Martin, Co-Founder and CEO of SKUDONET, about the company’s open-source load balancers, cybersecurity emphasis, and customer relationships.

I often hear time stops for no one. And that’s true, time moves quickly. But you know what else seems to keep up right beside it? Evolution. We can see this clearly in the tech landscape.

Evolution has been ever-flowing in the tech industry. And I don’t think there is a better example than these last couple of decades. I remember the days of dial-up internet and landline phones.

But within a short frame of time, in that same 2000s decade, smartphones emerged and the cloud was developed. I have to say we, humans, have done a great job at adapting and adopting new technologies over the years, maybe some of that is thanks to our biological adaptability.

Tech has changed the game so many times, and we roll with it every time. As it happens, our expectations have also evolved. In the past, I could watch a YouTube video in 360p quality with slow loading speeds and think nothing of it. Today, that would be a devastating outcome.

The demand for high-level performance and quality has never been higher than it is today as tech development continues to push the envelope. And businesses must onboard solutions and construct infrastructure to handle that demand.

SKUDONET’s open-source load balancing solutions can make a great addition to that infrastructure. Load balancers allow users to scale and manage traffic efficiently without compromising performance or availability.

Load balancers have become an essential part of network and cloud environments. As internet use increases, companies will need these solutions to manage network load and meet traffic demands and performance expectations.

Below, I’ll discuss SKUDONET’s solutions, its cybersecurity offerings, and how it enables businesses to scale their websites and applications with high availability.

Open-Source Load Balancers for Every Need

Emilio Campos Martin co-founded SKUDONET in 2012. At the time, his only thought was to create something that would help the community. But he never imagined that SKUDONET would reach the international heights it has today.

Today, SKUDONET receives more than 100 software downloads weekly and has 20 partners around the world, helping it offer services to companies, including Forbes 500s. In July 2023, SKUDONET added to its board two partners who empowered the team to rebrand and strengthen their offerings.

“Now SKUDONET is stronger and the board has worked hard to move SKUDONET higher. We have built a company with a presence all around the world. And today, talking about open-source load balancers is thinking SKUDONET,” said Emilio Campos Martin, the CEO and Co-Founder of SKUDONET.

SKUDONET has become synonymous with load balancers because of its high quality and innovative solutions. It doesn’t only focus on one type of open-source load balancers but specializes in various kinds to meet every customer need.

The following are the types of load balancing SKUDONET offers:

  • Virtual load balancers
  • Software load balancers
  • Hardware load balancers
  • Cloud load balancers

The team designs its open-source load balancing solutions to adapt to your business and boost security across your networks and web applications. Load balancing has become crucial for managing traffic flow in today’s web landscape. Every business can find it useful.

“Any business with a presence in the network needs to invest in a load balancer solution. In our global world, 100% of businesses have an internet presence, so it requires great scalability for a business to reach its potential and grow,” said Emilio.

Load balancers distribute incoming requests across multiple servers to ensure high availability and optimize performance. So when your traffic increases, a load balancer can help your site or application accommodate the traffic flow without crashes.

Scalability and High Availability is What You Get

Load balancers have revolutionized how traffic is managed in network and cloud-native environments. SKUDONET’s open-source load balancers work at the application layer to distribute load across multiple servers for better scalability and performance.

“Our solution works to avoid service disruption. As a networking device, the load balancer offers solutions to our customers for high availability and scalability,” said Emilio.

Users can rest assured that their web servers can handle their traffic with load balancing. Implementing a load balancer ensures seamless traffic management, so you can scale and have high availability while you’re at it.

“High availability prevents end users from experiencing an error while scalability allows businesses to manage the increase of customers with more servers working as one. So scalability and high availability are the pillars of our solution,” said Emilio.

Making the Internet a Safer Place

Load balancers aren’t the only thing SKUDONET excels in. It also has cybersecurity in its portfolio. Not only does its load balancers enhance security, but it also offers DDoS and API protection, Web Application Firewalls, and detection systems.

Threats constantly evolve. SKUDONET seeks to help businesses get ahead of these attacks and vulnerabilities to stop bad actors from stealing and selling their information.

“Companies need a service that adapts as fast as threats and vulnerabilities evolve and here SKUDONET has found a way of doing it,” said Emilio.

Its open-source load balancers protect technological information against malware, ransomware, SQL injection attacks, DDoS attacks, and botnets, among other well-known vectors. They also have granular traffic control to prevent unauthorized access.

SKUDONET’s solutions allow businesses to boost their performance and security.

“Our cyber security team works hard using AI, WAF technology, and machine learning to identify attacks and keep our system protected,” said Emilio.

If the team identifies an attack in one load balancer, it will fix the vulnerability and send that information to other load balancers to ensure all its products and customers are protected.

SKUDONET also has a dedicated intrusion prevention and detection system to safeguard user applications and data. The real-time monitoring and threat detection allow SKUDONET to decrease the likelihood of threats disrupting a business and stealing data.

Businesses help make the internet, and SKUDONET works to make the internet a safer place for their operations and their end users.

Customers are #1

Emilio told us about SKUDONET’s approach to customer interaction. He said he and his team seek to build long-standing relationships with its customers and partners and has implemented strategies to honor those relationships.

“For example, the price for the acquisition of our software is quite competitive so it reduces the ROI for the companies. Our support service is also personalized and offered by our engineers,” said Emilio.

SKUDONET’s engineers who develop the products also help customers with their questions and technical issues. The team also holds meetings with customers to learn about their needs and how to meet them. For its road map, it prioritizes customer requests above all else.

“The moment a customer feels that their requested feature is in the product, the possibility of them continuing work with us increases. The most important thing for us is that we create technology that makes life easier for our customers,” said Emilio.

Making life easier is what SKUDONET has done for its customer base. Its open-source loading balancing solutions are affordable and offer a simple, scaling platform for a customer’s growing needs.

“The results speak better than my words. Our yearly renewal rate exceeds 95%. So we know that if a customer decides to work with us, it is for a long time. And that makes us feel proud of our work,” said Emilio.

What’s Next

The SKUDONET team is currently working on some new features and services. These additions include a CDN module and an edge computing service.

“We are working on a Content Delivery Network module that will cache and accelerate the traffic. We’re also working on new services like deploying SKUDONET on the Edge to ensure that only legitimate traffic reaches our customers’ hybrid cloud service,” said Emilio.

Emilio said the open-source load balancing market moves incredibly fast. So the team will continuously adapt and innovate to deliver users solutions to increase performance and their success online.

“We have not stopped working and adding new features since 2013 when we were born as a company. But for SKUDONET, this is the beauty of this sector, pushing us to offer the best of us to our customers and end users with a simple idea of making the internet a little bit safer,” said Emilio.
