GARMTECH Provides Managed Hosting Solutions for Latvian Clients with One of the Region’s Longest-Running Datacenters

Garmtech Provides Managed Hosting From Latvia

TL; DR: GARMTECH was one of the first web hosts to enter the Latvian marketplace in 2003, and its forward-thinking attitude has paid off. The company has developed such a solid reputation in the region because it understands its mostly-Latvian clientele better than multinational hosting providers. GARMTECH’s range of managed solutions allow small businesses without in-house IT teams to operate with agility in today’s competitive, tech-heavy market. And the company’s transparent pricing structure and hands-on approach to support are making it easier than ever for Latvia’s SMBs to broadcast their brands and connect with online audiences.

Latvia wasn’t home to many datacenters back in 2003. That meant individuals or businesses that operated websites in the country back then typically had to host them on servers in the United States, Australia, or other European countries.

But the founder of GARMTECH thought that Latvia, a country with a population of 1.5 million people, deserved more.

“Our founder came up with the idea that it’s possible to build a successful datacenter in Latvia,” said Deniss Mazers, Managing Partner and Chief Marketing Officer at GARMTECH.

Though datacenters weren’t common in Latvia, GARMTECH began to build one using refurbished hardware from other providers. The host opened for business in 2003 with three servers and a single asset.

“I can’t even remember the CMS we were using because it was the beginning of the internet in Latvia,” Deniss said.

GARMTECH began by building a datacenter to help Latvian clients through managed hosting services.

Right away, the company set its sights on attracting local businesses. But the first problem it encountered was that most Latvian entrepreneurs, even those with websites, didn’t quite know what hosting was — or why they needed it.

So, GARMTECH literally took its message to the streets. It purchased billboards to advertise its name, function, and how its services could help Latvian businesses. Over time, the company began attracting clients that understood the value of hosting in their home country. And GARMTECH’s dedicated following also appreciates the company’s unique understanding of the country’s business culture and practices.

That dedication and commitment have helped GARMTECH become one of the top managed hosting companies in Latvia — and it is expanding to help businesses around the world.

“Now, we are the largest hosting company in Latvia, and the only one that offers managed hosting,” Deniss said.

Affordable Pricing Attracts Clients Seeking Managed Services

GARMTECH created one of its key features in its early years of operation almost by accident. When the company acquired its first clients, the team immediately noticed a problem — none of them had an in-house system administrator.

From that realization, GARMTECH knew that it needed to offer complete IT environments to clients that didn’t have them. So it developed physical servers with administration, virtual servers, and hosting.

“Now, it’s called managed hosting and managed VPS, and that’s all we offer,” Deniss said.

Today, GARMTECH offers a diverse array of managed Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) options for clients. They can choose Microsoft or Linux services at price points suitable for their operations and budgets. Clients also retain control and can configure their own systems, while GARMTECH handles security requirements on its virtual servers.

GARMTECH offers a number of hosting plans that can be customized according to a business’s needs.

GARMTECH VPS also offers considerable benefits. For example, the company’s servers include SSD drives with plus-300% server speed, 1 Gbps bandwidth, and unlimited traffic. And the servers have simple portals that provide clients with the option to add on a variety of software programs.

“You don’t need to have an administrator or IT specialists; we will do everything,” Deniss said.

When a company chooses GARMTECH to provide managed services, it also has several VPS package options.

The V-FIRST package includes one core, 30 GB of disk space, a 1000 MHz processor, and 512 MB of RAM. The company’s deluxe package, the V-RAPID, has three cores, 110 GB of disk space, a 3000 MHz processor, and 4096 MB of RAM. GARMTECH also offers two options in between, so companies can find the right fit.

Speedy and Reliable Customer Support Keeps Websites Running

Some companies turn to GARMTECH because they have found limited support with other hosting options. Deniss said that could be due to the fact that many users don’t know the difference between managed hosting and just server space. In Latvia, entrepreneurs are accustomed to receiving help and customization options with most business purchases. But that is certainly not the case with basic hosting plans.

“If you just buy hosting service, you are not buying any help,” Deniss said.

Because of that misunderstanding about the support that comes with basic hosting, GARMTECH often sees clients switching from larger, multinational companies over to managed support. And GARMTECH ensures all of its clients a high level of support, whether they purchase a basic plan or a premium package.

Many GARMTECH clients don’t have dedicated IT departments, so it provides full-service options.

GARMTECH also provides the technical support that many of its clients seek. Specifically, the company promises clients of all VPS levels 24/7/365 customer support services, and it addresses problems quickly.

“When we receive a ticket, we try to fix every problem that day, within the hour,” Deniss said.

The reason GARMTECH provides such robust customer service is, in part, because of what it noticed early on with clients: They lack in-house IT teams. That means if GARMTECH doesn’t fix the problem, no one will.

“Our clients can’t afford to wait because they need their issues fixed and their sites to work,” Deniss said. “We have a following in our country because of our support.”

GARMTECH: Expanding Beyond Latvia to Serve the World

GARMTECH started in 2003 to provide services to Latvian companies that had been overlooked by larger hosts. And all these years later, those local small- and medium-sized businesses are still GARMTECH’s focus.

“SMBs are our main clients, though we also have million- and billion-dollar companies that contract with us because they need reliable service in Latvia,” Deniss said.

Because of the company’s in-depth knowledge of the Latvian market, most GARMTECH clients are from the country, though the company is steadily growing a worldwide base.

“About 70% of our customers are in the local market, and 30% are outside of the country,” Deniss said.

Those international clients come from countries including Europe, Asia, Australia, and the United States. GARMTECH began expanding its footprint in 2018 and, while growing, the company didn’t change its model but rather continued focusing on managed services.

And GARMTECH has big plans for 2019. First, it will focus on increasing speed by launching another fusion server. It will also launch new virtual servers to make more space for its users. It is also planning an expansion to serve other markets for the first time in its 16 years in business.

“We will launch our new products in Sweden, Norway, and Australia,” Deniss says. “We will be focusing only on managed services and consulting at first.”

Though it has a long history as one of Latvia’s oldest hosting companies, GARMTECH still seeks to identify and meet the needs of its users.

“We can reach more users and accomplish the same goals for businesses in other countries,” Deniss said. “And expanding our managed plans will continue to be our focus this year.”
