Some people (the majority) call it Magento 2, while others know it as Magento community edition or Magento 2 Open-Source. But it doesn’t really matter what you call it; this is one of the most popular eCommerce platforms today. Personally, I love its flexibility and scalability, although I know many people who agree that, while it is indeed powerful, it’s not that easy to use. Whichever side of the aisle you stand on, there’s no disputing that we all need the best Magento 2 hosting to realize this platform’s true benefits.

I’ve used many hosting providers to host my eCommerce websites and experienced mixed results. Some hosting providers have been incredible, while others had me requesting a refund shortly after signing up. In this guide, I’ll only focus on what has worked for me throughout the years because, ultimately, they are the only ones that matter.

1. InMotion Hosting: Best Overall Magento Hosting Service

My Magento commerce hosting review begins with InMotion Hosting, and for a good reason.

You probably know that building a Magento 2 website gives you all the control you need to run your business online and create an excellent user experience. Better control is the reason I, and many other eCommerce business owners, choose Magento 2 in the first place.

InMotion Hosting gives customers control and performance with its NVMe SSD shared hosting plans — something you don’t get with many cheap packages. Add that to the benefits of using Magento 2 for your online business, and that’s a double dose of performance.

MAGENTO RATING
★★★★★ 4.8/5.0

  • Drag-and-drop online store building and FREE SSL

InMotion: Our Expert’s Review
PJ Fancher (HostingAdvice.com):

InMotion Hosting has long since been one of our favorites for quick and powerful sites and online stores. Magento users will love how simple InMotion makes site setup and how fast products will load with free SSDs.

Control aside, InMotion also offers flexibility, thanks to its four Magento hosting plans. Its three-year plan is the most cost-effective, but you can also try out the one-month plan if you’re unsure whether InMotion Hosting is the right option for you.

Remember that all hosting plans from InMotion Hosting have specific features designed to make running and managing your Magento 2 site easier. I’m talking about easy installation, end-to-end customer management, order management, comprehensive reports, simple updates, and search engine optimization (SEO) tools.

2. HostGator: Most User-friendly Magento Hosting Service

As I mentioned earlier, Magento 2 may not be the most user-friendly eCommerce platform out there, but the features and functionalities it offers justify its complexity. The only thing you need is a Magento host that won’t complicate things further.

As someone who owns several eCommerce stores, I only like to focus on my products or services and not how to navigate my web host. That’s one of the reasons I chose HostGator, the most user-friendly Magento host.

MAGENTO RATING
★★★★★ 4.8/5.0
  • Shared, cloud, and reseller hosting for Magento 2
  • Run Magento 2.1+ on VPS or dedicated server
  • FREE toll-free phone number for your store
  • Unmetered disk space and bandwidth
  • FREE dedicated IP address and private SSL

HostGator: Our Expert’s Review
Ryan Frankel (HostingAdvice.com):

What better host for your Magneto store than the provider we’ve deemed the best to grow with? HostGator’s tech-forward solutions are inherently scalable and optimized for the online store builder, giving entrepreneurs tons of high-class features.

The one-click install option is just one example of how easy it is to use Magento 2 on HostGator. And from my experience in the eCommerce world, I realized that having a user-friendly web host is crucial. You do not want to spend thousands of dollars on professional web development services if you can do some of these tasks yourself and save time and, most importantly, money.

3. A2 Hosting: Fastest Magento Hosting Service

I’m not a fan of slow websites, and you shouldn’t be, either. One study found that you can lose as much as 70% of your website visitors within the first two to three seconds if your website takes too long to load. Another unrelated study concluded that humans have a short attention span, about eight seconds, to be precise. That’s a shorter attention span than a goldfish!

Secondly, consumers always have options on the internet. Why should they wait five seconds for your Magento website to load when they can get a better experience elsewhere with a single click of a button? Again, it’s all about speed.

While all web hosts we’ve recommended in this guide offer incredible speeds, A2 Hosting takes it a notch higher. This web host uses the latest Intel Xeon Central Processing Units (CPUs) and solid-state drive storage to deliver the fastest loading times for eCommerce websites built with Magento.

MAGENTO RATING
★★★★ 4.4/5.0
  • Support for Magento 2 and LiteMage caching
  • Turbo Server upgrade included for FREE
  • Unlimited websites with high-speed NVMe Storage
  • FREE account migration and automatic backups
  • DDoS and brute force protection, plus dual firewall

A2 Hosting: Our Expert’s Review
Alexandra Anderson (HostingAdvice.com):

No one delivers high-speed page loads quite like A2 Hosting, which drastically impacts your store’s conversion rates. Every component of the company’s infrastructure is optimized for performance, from storage to caching.

Note that speed also contributes to a site’s ranking on search engines such as Google. The faster the website, the higher its chances of getting noticed.

4. Bluehost: Best Shared Magento Hosting Service

You do not necessarily need a VPS plan or dedicated server to run Magento 2. The only time you’ll need them is when you want to host bigger infrastructure. If you’re a small business owner on a budget like I was when I first started back in 2015, start small with a shared Magento hosting plan and then scale up as your business grows.

Ever heard of the myth that Magento 2 only works with a managed VPS or dedicated server? I’ll understand anyone with such an opinion because Magento web hosting companies are not the same. Some of these users probably had a bad experience with shared plans on their first attempt, which justifies their conclusion.

I recommend top hosting providers like Bluehost for the best shared Magento hosting service.

There’s a reason millions of users trust Bluehost to host their blogs and online stores. Magento fans should look no further when searching for a host for an ecommerce-oriented site.

For context, Bluehost offers a one-click installation process and an intuitive control panel to manage your Magento 2 website from a single platform. For the best hosting results, choose the Online Store plan for your Magento 2 site.

Here are other hosts worth giving a shout-out to:

If you’re looking for cloud hosting, Amazon web service is also another option.

What Is the Difference Between Magento 1 and Magento 2?

Magento 2 is the newer version of the Magento software. And because of the upgrade, it performs better and has more features than the previous version.

Business owners, including myself, use Magento to create online stores.

What Are the Hosting Requirements for Magento 2?

The hosting requirements for Magento 2 are pretty high compared to those for other eCommerce platforms, and that’s because Magento has more features and functionalities.

The features and functionalities Magento provides require updated technologies and hardware to run smoothly.

I’m talking about a web server such as Apache 2.4 or Nginx 1. x, PHP 7.3 or later, MySQL 5.7 or later, and a minimum of 2 GB of RAM. Just to be on the safe side, though, I’d go for a server with at least 4 GB of RAM and SSD storage for better performance.

Can I Run Magento 2 on a Shared Hosting Plan?

Technically, you can, but I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s like mounting regular tires on a train — it will likely crash shortly after.

If you really have to choose a shared hosting plan, start with a reliable one like Bluehost. You can then scale up to a VPS hosting plan or dedicated hosting as your business grows.

Is Magento 2 the Same As Adobe Commerce?

Not really. Adobe Commerce is a Magento cloud hosting platform with additional features and functionalities.

Adobe Commerce offers more out-of-the-box features than Magento.

For example, one of the organizations I worked for a few years ago before launching my eCommerce business used Adobe Commerce to access Adobe’s suite of tools, such as Adobe Analytics, Adobe Target, and Adobe Experience Manager, to run their online stores — something I couldn’t find in Magento 2.

What Is Managed Magento?

As the name implies, managed Magento is a hosting service that provides a complete, fully managed environment for Magento websites, where the managed hosting provider handles all technical aspects of running the website.

They typically perform any or all of the following tasks:

As the website owner with this kind of hosting, your job is to focus on running your online business, not worry about the technical details of website management.

How Do I Find the Best Magento Hosting Provider?

For starters, I know each Magento user has unique requirements, but I always look for great performance (unlimited bandwidth) and speed, preferably an upgraded server. That’s because Magento 2 is a resource-intensive platform. Additionally, choose a Magento hosting solution with scalable hosting plans just in case you would like to upgrade your Magento site in the near future as your store grows.

Don’t forget that security and customer support are critical in eCommerce as well. Lastly, consider your budget. One thing I learned from my eCommerce business is that expensive price tags don’t always mean great quality. Luckily for you, I’ve already covered the best options above. You don’t have to worry about digging deeper into your pockets just to find the right host for your online business.
