Behind more than $4 billion of sales, 3dcart's all-in-one eCommerce platform is powerful enough for large businesses while remaining user-friendly for small startups. The service handles everything from product listings and point-of-sale systems to customer relationship management and email marketing — all without charging a transaction fee.

Laura Bernheim (HostingAdvice.com):

After years of building custom online storefronts and shopping carts for medium and large businesses, Founder Gonzalo Gil compiled the most requested eCommerce features into 3dcart, a comprehensive eCommerce platform available to a wide range of entrepreneurs. After more than 20 years in business, the South Florida company has powered more than 17,000 stores and $4 billion in transactions.

The beauty of 3dcart is the large-scale functionality and toolset. The platform seamlessly handles web hosting, domain registration, eCommerce, blogging, email marketing, customer relationship marketing, and point-of-sale systems from a powerful administrative interface. Users sacrifice a bit of design flexibility with the lack of a true drag-and-drop website builder, but 3dcart offers more than 100 free and premium responsive themes that are sure to cover brands' needs.

The 3dcart facets we most appreciate include flexible payment and shipping options, as well as a robust app market that enables entrepreneurs to sync their stores with eBay, Amazon, and Facebook selling options. The company also goes above and beyond with security by providing free shared SSL certificates and several premium options from Comodo, Geotrust, Symantec, and RapidSSL. Touting Level 1 PCI compliance, which requires annual on-site audits and network scans, 3dcart securely handles more than 6 million credit card transactions per year.

  • 100+ conversion-optimized themes
  • Code-free customizations
  • Real-time shipping rates
  • No transaction fees or order limits
  • Level 1 PCI certification

Entrepreneurs looking for a true drag-and-drop website builder experience, such as those found on Wix, Weebly, and Squarespace, might come away disappointed. Although professional-grade eCommerce tools like 3dcart allow for fine-grain customizations to HTML and CSS, the drag-and-drop functionality common to other what-you-see-is-what-you-get builders is limited to switching between WordPress-style visual and code editors.

Templates are built in HTML and CSS, and users can download the files through FTP to make broad or minuscule customizations. For those without the time, expertise, or desire to learn how to tweak their 3dcart website, the company provides easy access to third-party designers, marketers, developers, and photographers.

Upon signing in, 3dcart users are greeted with a welcome message and setup wizard. After filling in basic business and contact information, you can select a store theme. You'll be presented with a handful of curated options, or you can click a few links to see the full slate of free and premium styles. Although the themes are quite modern and professional, it can be hard to find the best fit for your brand — instead of organizing by type of business, layout, or price (premium themes range from $100 to $200), the company categorizes themes by author: 3dcart, experts, or Envato users.

Theme frustrations aside, store owners should find the 3dcart administrative interface quite appealing with its seamless inclusion of all the tools needed to not only market and sell products but to measure success and identify areas for improvement.

Features

(4.9 / 5.0)

  • Business owners can set location-based tax rates, as well as rules based on products and customers. Third-party integrations with TaxCloud, Avalara, and SpeedTax are available, as well.
  • Other useful built-in tools include the ability to sell digital downloads, detailed product reports, and automated abandoned cart notifications.

Numerous Integrations Add Functionality

  • More than 40 apps come pre-installed with 3dcart, with more than 400 additional third-party applications ready to extend performance, security, and management features.
  • In addition to mobile and in-person sales, 3dcart enables entrepreneurs to sell on eBay, Amazon, Google, Facebook, and Shopzilla. The system automatically syncs data for orders and inventory.
  • Modules in the 3dcart app store supply tools for accounting, email marketing, shipping, and advertising, among other eCommerce needs.

Point-of-Sale App for On-the-Go Management

  • 3dcart's iPad POS app empowers entrepreneurs to sell products and accept payments in person from nearly anywhere. The app quickly syncs with your online store and product inventory and updates every 10 minutes.
  • The full-service system can process refunds, split invoices, email receipts, and apply custom discounts with the same familiar interface.
  • In addition to credit card readers, the 3dcart POS system will also integrate with a standard barcode scanner, register drawer, and printer. Sellers can also accept cash and check.

3dcart Review

The 3dcart content management system takes a little longer to get used to than some competing eCommerce platforms, but users should enjoy the platform once they learn where everything is. Particularly on the design and customizations features, we had a somewhat hard time navigating the company's deep navigation menu. One of the problems with giving users so many tools is there are only so many places to put them. Once sellers master what's hidden in the Settings and Content panes, their business will be off to the races. Long story short, 3dcart has everything you need — it's just a matter of finding it.

Pricing

Startup Plan

Basic Plan

Plus Plan

With 3dcart's main packages ranging between $29 and $229, the company is right on par with many competitors. Where 3dcart distinguishes itself, however, is in the bevy of available features and perks crammed into the affordable price point. The company does not restrict sellers with limits on orders, products, or bandwidth, nor do they charge transaction fees. Add in 24/7 support and built-in blogging and SEO tools, along with an included point-of-sale module, and 3dcart becomes quite a bargain.

If the 15-day free trial isn't enough time to make up your mind, 3dcart also offers an introductory and beginner-friendly Startup Plan at $19 per month. Users are limited to listing 500 products and selling up to $10,000 per year, but the low-cost option offers an economical alternative for brand-new entrepreneurs.

Reliability & Support

(4.7 / 5.0)

With such robust security measures in place, the 3dcart infrastructure shows the stability and performance perks you'd expect from an eCommerce platform. We appreciate that the company will migrate new users' stores for free, using a team operating from the company's South Florida headquarters. 3dcart gives store owners ample resources with which to grow their businesses, including a knowledgebase, HTML guide, training videos, and eCommerce University.

Despite the up-front wealth of information, however, we remain a little skeptical of 3dcart's ability to maintain that high level of support. The company advertises around-the-clock assistance through an email ticket system, phone call, or live chat, but the company only makes the email ticketing platform available from the administrative interface. Users can find a toll-free phone number on the company website, but live chat was nowhere to be found.

3dcart Includes:

24/7 US-Based Support Via Email Tickets, Phone, or Live Chat, plus FAQs, Knowledgebase, User Manual, Training Videos, and Webinars

The Rundown

Laura Bernheim

Hosting Expert:

To recap, here's a rundown of what 3dcart has to offer

A refreshing alternative to eCommerce platforms like Shopify, Magento, and Pinnacle Cart, 3dcart is a fully featured system that can help new brands get started and start selling. With seemingly every tool built into the administrative portal, 3dcart is a one-stop shop for customer relationship management, email marketing, inventory management, and business growth. We knocked the platform somewhat for concerns over usability and support, but 3dcart overall represents a strong and cost-effective service worthy of consideration.
