With so many InMotion Hosting services to choose from, getting started can be the hardest part. Once you select a plan, however, you can rest easy knowing that InMotion’s complete suite of offerings will be on standby as your project grows and needs change.
Shared hosting plans, which InMotion dubs Business Hosting, is an affordable choice for static websites, personal portfolios, blogs, and other relatively simple endeavors. InMotion will pre-install WordPress, Joomla, or PrestaShop during your purchase, and more experienced users can use SSH and develop in PHP, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Ruby, Perl, and Python.
For rapidly growing businesses and high-traffic applications, various packages for virtual and dedicated servers exist to provide flexibility and abundant scalable computing resources. WordPress users can revel in InMotion’s optimized and fine-tuned managed WordPress platform, while developers and design agencies can earn money through the company’s robust reseller plans.
InMotion is one of the few hosting providers that will accept checks, money orders, and wire transfers, the last of which will also include a minimum $35 processing charge. The company does not accept cash but will, of course, process the standard Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover credit and debit cards. Additionally, Customers can contact InMotion’s billing department to request to make payments with PayPal.
Even though the vast majority of hosting providers advertise their prices on a per-month basis, few companies actually bill every 30 or so days. Most of InMotion’s services are billed annually and up front, but the company does offer a month-by-month shared hosting plan. Customers can also select monthly VPS and dedicated packages to adjust computing resources as needed.
All InMotion products will automatically renew by default, and the company will notify customers via email 30 days before charging the payment method on file. The renewal will increase your costs to the standard price of the hosting plan you choose, but selecting a two-year plan will stave off the price hike for another 12 months.
New customers who sign up for any 12- or 24-month shared, VPS, reseller, or WordPress hosting plan will receive a free domain name registration or free domain transfer. After the introductory period, domains will renew at $14.99 each year. Like other hosting providers, domain registrations are non-refundable — a customer opting to take advantage of InMotion’s stellar 90-day money-back guarantee will be charged $16.99 and retain ownership of the domain.
Customers can only register domain names that end in .com, .net, .org, .us, .biz, or .info through InMotion, but the company supports all other domain extensions, which can be pointed to the company’s nameservers and added to the customer’s cPanel.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the organization responsible for overseeing online namespaces, requires a mailing address, phone number, and email address to be made publicly available through the WHOIS directory. Many hosting providers and domain registrars, including InMotion, offer domain privacy to protect customers from spammers and identity thieves.
With domain privacy through InMotion, the company’s information is made public instead of the customer’s. Your name will still appear by default, but you can request InMotion to hide that, as well. The service is available for $9.99 per domain per year as an add-on service. According to the company, that price is 10% less than that of competitors.
Uptime guarantees are essentially a promise that your hosting provider will make sure the infrastructure supporting your website or application is working properly and making your content available online for a prescribed amount of time. Obviously, 100% is ideal, but few hosts can pull that off without charging an arm and a leg.
InMotion’s network uptime guarantees, however, come in above the industry average of 99.9%. Shared, VPS, reseller, and WordPress plans come with a 99.99% network uptime guarantee, which equates to about four minutes of downtime per month. Dedicated server customers can enjoy a stellar 99.999% network uptime thanks to the company’s Smart Routing™ technology and redundant switches.
Most of InMotion’s VPS plans come with Launch Assist, which includes two hours of free time with an InMotion system administrator. That time can be used for website transfers, security and application setup, and other onboarding tasks. All dedicated hosting packages include between two and four hours of SysAdmin time, in addition to the helpful support articles that walk customers through the process manually.
InMotion boasts one of the most helpful and experienced support teams we’ve encountered. Associates can’t answer support chats, phone calls, or emails until they’ve successfully completed at least 160 hours of internal training on topics such as the LAMP stack, email clients, CentOS, and more.
Several InMotion Hosting plans include some form of managed services, from patches and updates to operating systems to automatic backups and server monitoring. For those who would like some extra assistance, InMotion allows customers to schedule time with the company’s web hosting experts.
Managed hosting plans cost between $40 and $100 per month, depending on how many hours you want. Customers typically have to commit to between three and six months of managed services, but InMotion occasionally runs promos that shorten the contract to one month.
Luckily for you, we’ve cultivated a strong relationship with the kind folks at InMotion that allows us to pass along fantastic deals that don’t require a coupon code. Enjoy half-priced hosting — or even higher discounts — on shared, VPS, reseller, and WordPress packages, while dedicated servers can be had for between 8% and 47% off the full price. Simply click on the offers above to take advantage of these outstanding deals.
Not only does InMotion Hosting offer a money-back guarantee, the company provides some of the most generous terms you’ll find in the hosting industry. All shared, VPS, and reseller plans scheduled to last at least six months are covered by a 90-day refund policy, while dedicated servers and monthly billed VPS and reseller packages are eligible for full refunds within 30 days. We’ve spotted one or two 97-day money-back guarantees out in the wild, but sightings are rare and the services are usually much more expensive than those found at InMotion.
As with many hosts, if a customer cashes in on a free domain registration before choosing to cancel hosting services, InMotion will reduce the refund by $16.99 to cover the cost of the domain and administrative tasks. The customer, however, will retain ownership over the domain name.
At the shared hosting level, InMotion plans are typically a dollar or two higher than our cheapest recommended hosts, placing them squarely in the middle of the pack. We’re perfectly okay with that, however, because customers come out ahead in the long term by enjoying SSD performance and reliable support. VPS and dedicated services are very competitively priced, as well.
