For much of this year, investors basically wrote Wix a eulogy. If anyone could ask their chatbot for a website, then why would they need a website builder? After all, shares dropped from over $100 in January to near $40 at its 52-week low in June.
On August 24, Wix finally answered that question. And it’s a pretty good answer: If the chatbot’s coming for us, then let’s move into the chatbot.
In an announcement, they revealed their key AI website builder Wix Harmony is now available as a connected app within Google Gemini. Hook up the Wix app, type “@Wix” into your chat and describe in voice or text the kind of site you want.
And what you get back isn’t some static export of a design or even a preview. It’s a live Wix Harmony site created on Wix’s own hosting infrastructure. Already built into this are eCommerce, scheduling, payments, SEO, accessibility, and security.
“Through this collaboration, users can now build directly inside Gemini, removing the friction of switching between tools,” said Shahar Talmi, who’s the GM of Developer Platform at Wix, in the announcement. “Wix Harmony makes building a professional website as effortless and natural as simply asking for one, right within the platform they’re already using.”
Investors liked what they heard and shares jumped 3% to 4% on announcement day.
The Chat Window Is the New Control Panel
Half of what’s delivered here is the technology. But the other half — management — is more significant: Sites built using the integration can now be managed from within the chat or via Wix’s Business Manager. Plus, using the same chat thread one could update inventory, see performance of the site, reprice products, and take bookings.
That’s quite a leap. Lots of AI tools will spit out a landing page for you. Fewer will let you check sales from yesterday and cut a price in the same conversation. And this one will do it without having to fire up a dashboard.
But more importantly to readers will be the underlying hosting. This isn’t some static preview on a throwaway URL; it’s a live site on the same infrastructure Wix announced when they launched Harmony in January. And according to Wix, this targets 99.99% uptime. The Wix app is now available to users of Gemini in eligible markets, though Wix hasn’t yet shared its full list of supported markets.
Three Assistants in Six Months
This may be the point most worth noting for developers and hosts. This isn’t a one-off partnership for them: It’s their third move into mainstream AI assistants since spring.
First up was Wix Harmony itself on January 21, a hybrid between vibe coding via natural language on one side and drag and drop precision on the other. Avishai Abrahami, Wix’s CEO, said it would let “anyone create a beautiful website, design easily with prompts and natural language without sacrificing scalability, security, reliability and performance.”

Then on March 2, the Wix app appeared in ChatGPT, using OpenAI’s Apps SDK and powered by Wix’s Model Context Protocol server. On June 15, the same functionality appeared in Microsoft 365 Copilot. Now with Gemini we’ve reached three mainstream assistants from OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google in just seven months since Harmony launched.
The upshot is that Wix no longer needs to wait for would-be site owners to go off and type wix.com into their browser. Now they can meet them in the chat window they already have open.
If You’re Picking a Platform This Fall
For the solopreneur who’s already using Gemini to name their business and write their landing page copy, then why leave to build and host an entire site? Fair, but it’s a different story for agencies and freelance developers.
If you’re recommending which website builder a client should use this month, the playing field has definitely changed. Squarespace has a capable in-house assistant (Blueprint AI) as does Shopify (Sidekick). But none sits within a mainstream chat assistant like Wix Harmony now does in ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini.
Self-hosted WordPress offers more control than any of them and none of the convenience. No one’s yet done a proper same brief comparison of the assistant building an actual site vs. Blueprint and Sidekick. Give them all the same brief for a small business, see what actually ships until someone does the claim that “the assistant builds your real site” remains more of a plumbing claim than quality. (Not to say that plumbing doesn’t matter: Many platform wars over the years have been decided at distribution level long before anyone questioned the product quality.)
Now the key question is whether sites built in chat drive paying subscriptions. Wix posted $563.1 million revenue in Q2, up 15% year over year, but investors spent much of the first half of 2026 pricing the company as if they’d be eaten by AI for lunch.
If even a small share of Gemini users want a site — and hang onto the one Wix builds — that eulogy that investors have been reciting was premature. Because in this case, the chat window doesn’t just become a place to build a website. It becomes one of the most valuable entry points in the hosting business.
