Key Takeaways
The U.K.-based web host, 20i, just announced a new addition to its platform that may just be exactly what small business owners are looking for — the very demographic that has been among the most vocal about what they need from providers.
The web host officially launched Twentie, a fully integrated AI assistant that’s embedded into 20i’s control panel. It has live access to account data and platform APIs so it’s capable of generating performance reports, analyzing trends, adjusting firewall rules, or drafting copy.

“We called Twentie a personal assistant because it is exactly that, always there to help with anything you need,” said Lloyd Cobb, director at 20i. “Twentie helps to transform our My20i hosting control panel into a full collaborative workspace.”
AI assistants have become more commonplace across the industry, with most implementations focusing on content generation and support automation.
But 20i directly embeds it into its control panel layer so end users don’t have to switch between several tools just to do a few simple tasks.
“Currently if a user wants to analyse their traffic, update a staging site, and then draft a newsletter about a new feature, they have to jump between three or four different tools,” Cobb told us.
No More Tools, Please!
Insights from Okta’s SMBs at Work 2025 report show that even smaller businesses still deploy dozens of apps for workflows, including collaboration, developer, HR, analytics, and design tools.
In that respect, Twentie is a big deal for 20i’s customers. Today’s end users are begging for simplicity and businesses are very tired of using multiple platforms just to get a day of work done.
Instead of acting like a piece of the business by offering a website, 20i’s Twentie acts as an all-in-one platform that can address several needs at once. Not only could that resonate with SMBS — but it’s also opportunistic for agencies and resellers who need to streamline reporting, performance, and client management.
For example, users can ask Twentie: “Are there currently any urgent actions on my customer accounts that need my attention?” or “Which team members currently have access to My20i and what are their permissions?”
Most notably, this isn’t your average GPT API. There are no caps or credits required; 20i customers can use it as little or as often as they’d like.
“We embedded Twentie directly into our customer API and control panel,” Cobb explained. “We develop and operate our entire stack in-house, so we do not need to rely on third party APIs or worry about pay per usage infrastructure costs on a day-to-day basis.”
Plus, Twentie is included on all hosting plans. When’s the last time you saw a workflow-changing tool that was included for free?
It could naturally influence how other hosting providers provide and package their AI going forward. But this isn’t about adding a chatbot to the dashboard: When AI is built into the control panel and connected to live account data like Twentie is, it claims a place as part of the platform.
Of course, that’s where the biggest risks can be.
When the Assistant Becomes Part of the Platform
A Salt Security report found that 28% of organizations have experienced an API-related breach in the past year. That goes to show how sensitive API layers have become across modern platforms, especially when tools are deeply integrated into account-level systems.
But unlike those tools, Twentie isn’t pulling data from an external service. Twentie can see account data and work with real settings inside the control panel. We’re talking permissions, staging environments, firewall rules, and even blog drafts, too.
Cobb alleviates this concern, explaining that 20i’s infrastructure is multitenant, so it has strict access controls and centralized identity management.
“Every action [Twentie] performs runs as the authenticated user, using the same permissions and safeguards as our control panel and APIs,” he said. “Twentie has no additional access to infrastructure beyond what the user already has.”
Plus, if routine account questions and configuration checks can be handled inside the control panel, ticket volume may be reserved for more complicated issues and lower operational overhead in the long run.
That’s not to say that 20i has plans to remove its human support agents, though.
“Our 24/7 human support team will always be there to help with technical issues, but Twentie provides a different layer of support and advice acting as a sounding board,” Cobb said.
Twentie is now available inside the My20i control panel and will roll out across the company’s platform, which currently supports more than 1 million websites worldwide. Learn more here.
