Meet Papaki: A Leading Greek Domain Name Registrar and Hosting Provider on a Mission to Help Site Owners Realize Their Online Visions

Papaki Empowers Site Owners To Realize Their Online Dreams

TL; DR: Founded in 2004, the Greece-based domain registrar and hosting company Papaki has been pumping out quality web solutions for businesses and entrepreneurs for over a decade. As part of the Enartia group of brands, Papaki’s mission is to help make online visions a reality with high-performance hosting and hands-on support that places customer success as the top priority. We recently caught up with Papaki’s Marketing Manager Alexandra Karapidaki, who told us the company aims to continue its dedication to deliver what site owners and organizations need to broadcast their brands and turn profits online.

In 2004, friends Dimitris Anthoulakis, Frank Maounis, and Aggela Anthoulaki sat down in Crete to discuss their enthusiasm for web development. The trio shared a passion for turning their digital visions into reality, and they knew they could help others do the same. So they rolled up their sleeves and started Papaki and what would become known as the Enartia group of brands — a Greece-based organization focused on delivering web development and consulting services.

“Their first office was a tiny room of only 9 square meters,” said Alexandra Karapidaki, Papaki’s Marketing Manager. “They started out building websites — the idea for domain names was not in the early business plan.”

Papaki is on a mission to deliver high-quality domain and hosting solutions, and hands-on customer support.

The same year the company was founded, the .gr extension became available for registration, and Papaki was named as the 85th registrar. After several years of steady growth, Dimitris, Frank, and Aggela moved their team into larger offices and began offering new services. Now focused on hosting and domain names, Papaki rapidly gained prominence, and by 2009 was one of the top .gr registrars.

“We moved into a spacious yet cozy building that we customized according to our needs,” Alexandra said. “In 2015, Papaki was registered on Inc. 5000 Europe’s list of the fastest growing companies on the continent.”

In the years since, Papaki has become a global provider of .gr, .eu domains, and over 500 other TLDs, operating in 100-plus countries and earning several awards for customer service and its friendly work environment.

Helping Webmasters Overcome Security and Compliance Challenges

As one of Greece’s top registrars and hosting service providers, Papaki has undergone several changes throughout its growth cycle. When the company shifted focus to hosting and domains, it quickly grew to dominate the market. And, with its rapidly expanding client base, Papaki had become even more responsible for the security of its provided services to numerous Greek businesses.

In 2016, the EU enacted the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requiring all EU businesses and global businesses with EU customers to be in compliance by May 2018. As a result, Papaki hired two new security experts to aid in the development of a new data governance plan. The goal was to ensure the security of customer information while still keeping the registration and management of domain names as simple as possible.

Papaki’s team is committed to giving customers the latest tools to secure their sites.

Meanwhile, Google Chrome and other browsers had begun marking non-HTTPS sites as unsecured, with version 68 of Chrome — to be released in July 2018 — to display warnings for these sites upon visit.

“It was important for us to inform our customers and give them the tools they needed to secure their websites,” Alexandra said. “We provide trustworthy SSL certificates that cover the different needs of a website and at the same time fit our customers’ pockets.”

Papaki also keeps users informed about the latest security trends through its website and social media pages.

Hosting Services Shaped By Customer Feedback and Tech Trends

A major contribution to Papaki’s success is its focus on enhancing the user experience. Alexandra told us Papaki aims to make it easy for customers to create professional, secure websites without the need for extensive technical skill.

With its history in web development, Papaki’s staff understands the roadblocks that come with creating and maintaining an online presence.

“Papaki’s distinctive feature is the commitment to a strong corporate culture that is translated into a set of key values that include passion, willingness, self-improvement, humility, transparency, and self-leadership,” Alexandra said.

With these values in mind, Papaki seeks to make the web accessible to everyone.

In addition to basic hosting and domain name registration, Papaki also offers award-winning managed hosting for WordPress and its popular WooCommerce plugin. This allows even the most novice site owners to build online presence without the need to manage installations, updates, or other technical necessities. Papaki eases the entire process.

While much of Papaki’s approach to innovation stems from customer feedback, it is also heavily influenced by industry trends. To keep pace with all the rapid changes in the tech world, Papaki regularly attends industry conferences and educational events, including WebSummit, WordCamp Europe, and Cloud Fest, among others.

“These kinds of events give us opportunities for live feedback and also keep us updated about new market trends,” Alexandra said. “Moreover, we arrange one-to-one meetings with some of our loyal customers so they can give us an analytic report of their experience.”

Industry news is regularly relayed to customers through Papaki’s blog, social media accounts, and e-newsletters.

Easy Web Development Via Free Resources and Hands-On Support

Alexandra told us customers are Papaki’s top focus, and much of the company’s value comes from its impressive support and other readily available help resources. Papaki’s customer service is made up of several departments — technical support, hosting transfer support, and corporate services, among others. The idea is to be able to tackle specific problems customers are facing.

“We have created multiple contact channels, including phone, email, a ticketing system, and chat through our social media and our chatbot,” Alexandra said. “Customers can also ask for a call-back, as we want to provide the best possible customer service for each of them.”

Papaki’s Support Center offers customers helpful articles, tutorials, and a comprehensive knowledgebase.

The resources on Papaki’s site can walk users through the entire site-building process, starting with quick domain name registration through design and activation. Featuring a custom control panel designed for simplicity, as well as an extensive knowledgebase and library of video tutorials, customers are empowered to solve the most common problems.

If further assistance is needed, Papaki support staff is readily available for quick resolution — offered through hands-on support.

“Our friendly support department gives personal assistance to each customer,” Alexandra said. “We stand next to our customers to help them create their unique online presence, and we truly enjoy seeing their ideas come true.”

Coming Soon: A New Affiliate Program Aimed at Increasing Client Income

Alexandra told us the Papaki team was excited to unveil its plans for a more inclusive affiliate opportunity. The new program allows clients from any business type to promote Papaki’s services and reap the rewards.

“Over the years we have had a lot of customer requests to create an affiliate program for Papaki,” Alexandra said. “We are excited to give our customers the chance of having an income by promoting our services.”

In addition to this new affiliate program, Papaki offers those in the domain reselling market an excellent opportunity to widen their revenue streams. After client applications are approved, they gain access to a number of domain sales tools as well as discounts and special offers. These tools, which include a plugin for WordPress, Joomla module, and other platforms’ modules, are easily integrated into one’s site.

Since 2004, Papaki has made a name for itself as one of Greece’s top registrars and hosts, earning several awards for its support and services, including managed WooCommerce hosting. In 2017 alone, Papaki’s customer service department was recognized as Team of the Year by the National Customer Service Awards, while its call center was named the Best Customer Service Call Center in Greece.

“We do our best to offer a great user experience, innovative services, and amazing customer support to make people feel a bit happier every day,” Alexandra said.
